How rugby coaches can use movement timelines and ball flow to teach plays

If you have ever drawn a play on a phone and then tried to explain timing in a team chat, you already know the gap: players need to see when they run and where the ball goes, not a static photo. Rugby Moves in Get The Game On is built for that — movement on a timeline, possession on the same pitch, and Focus so one jersey can watch only their path.

The timeline is the move

In Moves, each phase is a sequence. Move Builder writes Run, Switch, Loop, Pass, Miss and Crash as steps you can stack with THEN. Apply puts paths and possession onto the pitch. Playback scrubs time so you can stop on the moment 10 takes the ball or 13 hits the gap.

This is not a chat-bot “AI coach”. It is guided rugby language plus a zoomable pitch. Manual motion still exists for the one decoy that is not a classic shape.

Ball flow without extra apps

Ball mode lets you scrub time and tap who receives. Combined with Move Builder passes and misses, players see the ball travel through 9-10-12-13 the way you call it on the grass — not as three separate arrows in a notes app.

Defence modes (static, active, manual) sit on the same clip, so you can show why the miss works instead of hoping they imagine the line.

Teach one job with Focus

On playback, Focus a jersey. Everyone else fades. A wing who always asks “where do I go?” gets their path only. Share the move with the club (or keep it private while you draft), tag the squad, and they can watch before training — on the same app they already use for availability.

Lineouts and touch, not just backs

Start from Lineout 5 or Lineout 7, place the pod, then Move Builder or manual motion off the peel. Touch templates are there if that is the session. The pitch is large enough to put depth behind the lineout instead of five dots in midfield.

What not to do

Do not try to teach the play only in team chat. Put the clip in Moves, Focus the numbers who keep getting it wrong, and use training in the schedule for the session itself. The animation is the brief; the grass is still the test.
